The Public Services Department has multiple partnerships with outside agencies for seasonal maintenance activities. One such partnership is with Scott County, where Waconia and other local agencies combine asphalt bituminous trail sealing for bidding purposes. By combining work and resources, we see lower operational costs.
The focus for the sealing process is to prevent oxidation of the asphalt surface from the sun's rays. The more sun exposure, the more deterioration that occurs to the asphalt surface. This process is much like what we complete when we chip seal our streets.
Linked, you'll find a PDF document that highlights the areas being completed in the community. Most of our emphasis is again on the trails east of Trunk Highway 284 and extend north and south from Interlakken Woods to Lake Waconia. Public Services Trail Sealing Areas 2021 (PDF MAP)
Prior to the sealing process, Public Services staff will be making minor repairs. If these repairs are programmed near your residence, we will make every effort to make you aware in advance of the work. Please adhere to the notices and postings when the sealing company starts their work. They will be spraying the cracks and sealing them in advance of the seal coat operations. It will take one day for the seal coat to try.
