City Council Vacancy
The City of Waconia is seeking a resident of Ward 2 to fill a Council vacancy due to the appointment of Kent Bloudek to the office of Mayor. This vacancy will be filled by appointment of the City Council and the appointed person shall serve until a successor is elected at the next regular city election on November 3, 2020.
Qualified residents interested in filling this position are requested to submit a letter of interest and responses to a list of prepared questions to the City of Waconia by regular mail or email to 201 South Vine Street, Waconia, MN 55387 or careers@waconia.org by midnight on Wednesday, May 29, 2019. The letter of interest must include your name, address, and a summary of your background and experience.
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must be a resident of Ward 2.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
Ward 2
Ward 2 is defined as properties on the east side of a line beginning at Lake Waconia, south on Vine Street to Third Street, east one block on Third Street to Olive Street, south on Olive Street to Hwy. 5, west on Hwy. 5 of Oak Avenue, south on Oak Avenue to the city limits.
City Council Duties
The City Council establishes city policy and long-range community goals and exercises budgetary control through the adoption of an annual budget. The City Council meets regularly to consider ordinances, resolutions, and other such actions as may be required by law and circumstance. The various issues brought before the Council may be initiated by Council members, advisory commissions, administrative staff, or residents of the community.
City Council Meetings
Regular meetings of the Council are generally held the first and third Mondays of each month. Meetings begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Waconia City Hall, 201 South Vine Street, Waconia, MN. The Council meets in work sessions following most regular meetings. Council Members also serve as liaisons to various boards, commissions, and committees.
